  3.                         FAITH FOR FINANCE
  4.  
  5. It is vitally essential to develop an effective life of faith in
  6. the realm of finance.  The only challenge to prove God in the whole
  7. Bible is regarding money - Malachi 3:10, "Bring the tithes into the
  8. storehouse ... and PROVE NE NOW, if I will not open the windows of
  9. heaven and pour you out a blessing, there shall not he room enough
  10. to receive it."
  11.  
  12. If faith is not expressed in the matter of money, it is likely that
  13. it will be weak and underdeveloped in other areas as well.
  14.  
  15. 1.   DEALING WITH THE POVERTY SYNDROME
  16.  
  17. A.   Some have the idea that it is spiritual to be poor.  Humility
  18.      has nothing to do with finance.
  19.  
  20. B.   1 Timothy 6:6-10 declares that it is the "love" of money, not
  21.      money itself, which is evil.  It is very often "loved" or
  22.      "coveted" by those who do not have it.
  23.  
  24. C.   Poverty has nothing to do with economics.  It is a spiritual
  25.      condition, ie Money and wealth are not necessarily bound
  26.      together.
  27.  
  28. D.   Poverty is part of the curse of the law - Deut. 28: 15-19,
  29.      38-45.
  30.  
  31. E.   Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law - Galatians
  32.      3:13-14, Ps. 105: 37, 2 Cor. 8:9.
  33.  
  34.      Through His poverty Jesus bore our poverty as much as sin and
  35.      sickness.
  36.  
  37. F.   Christians who deny God's provision for then are a liability
  38.      on the Gospel.
  39.  
  40. G-   The believer must express faith to appropriate it as in
  41.      Salvation.  The Abrahamic Covenant and Abundant life - John
  42.      10:10.
  43.  
  44. H.   The poverty syndrome is often a "fear of failure".
  45.  
  46. 2.   WEALTH COMES FROM GOD
  47.  
  48. A.   The ability to have every need met does not necessarily mean
  49.      that there will be great resources laid up in the bank.  In
  50.      fact the opposite is probably truer.  Note Matt. 6:19-20.  The
  51.      abundant life means that there is no limitation to anything we
  52.      need to do, Phil. 4:19 says that provision for every need
  53.      comes from God.  God is our source!

  55. B.   Deut. 8:18, Ps. 24:1, and 50:10-12.

  57. C.   Poverty, like sickness, comes from Satan's work - John 10:10,
  58.      Job I & 2.
  59.  
  60. 3.   GOD'S FINANCIAL WILL FOR HIS PEOPLE
  61.  
  62. A.   Abraham ... the land could not hear his flocks for abundance
  63.      - Gen. 13:6
  64.  
  65. B.   Job ... wealthy to start with ... his latter end was blessed
  66.      much more.  Job 42:12.
  67.      C. Solomon...  Blessed with abundance.  1 Kings 3:13, 10:14-15
  68.  
  69.      D.   David... was enabled to give for the building of the
  70.           temple more than four billion dollars of gold and silver
  71.           at 1982 values,
  72.  
  73.      E.   Even without the release of large amounts of finance, we
  74.           are enabled to live in God's resources in every time of
  75.           need:
  76.  
  77.           a) Widow of Zarapheth ...     1 Kings 17.
  78.  
  79.           b)   Prophet's widow - oil stopped only when vessels
  80.           stopped. 11 Kings 4.
  81.  
  82.           c)   Feeding of 5000 and 4000 ... At least 20,000 would
  83.           have been fed. ie 4000 per loaf with more than 2
  84.           baskets per loaf left over. ie After giving there was
  85.           more left than they had to start with.

  87.      F.   Deuteronomy 28:1-14; 3 John v 2; 2 Corinthians 9:8;
  88.           Psalm 112:3; Mark 10:28-30.

  90. 4.   PRINCIPLES OF PERSONAL PROSPERITY
  91.  
  92. A.   The release of God's financial blessing is tied to the
  93.      principles of tithing.
  94.  
  95.           a)   Giving to God is an act of faith which opens us to
  96.                God's resources.
  97.  
  98.           b)   Israelis gave at least 28% of their income to
  99.                God's word.  The Lord's tithe was for the support
  100.                of the Levites- The second tithe was mainly for
  101.                sacrifices.  The third tithe was for the
  102.                distribution to the poor.
  103.  
  104.           c)   Proper giving is far more than merely returning to
  105.                God the one tenth that is His.  Malachi 3:8-11,
  106.                "and offerings".  Proverbs 3:9-10, "firstfruits".
  107.                2 Corinthians 9:10; Prov. 11:24-25; Luke 6:38.
  108.  
  109.           d)   Without the covering of tithing which is our part
  110.                of a covenant with God, we are exposed to the
  111.                destroyer and cursed with a curse.
  112.  
  113.           e)   To avoid tithing is called "theft from God".
  114.  
  115.           f)   Tithing establishes the Lordship of God in our
  116.                lives.
  117.  
  118.           g)   The tithe belongs to the local Church (storehouse)
  119.                and is not designated.
  120.  
  121.           h)   With what measure you give ... Mark 10:28-30; Luke
  122.                6:38; 1 Cor. 9:6.

  124.           i)   Abraham had a revelation of God as possessor of
  125.                heaven and earth and immediately gave tithes - 430
  126.                years before the law came in.  Gen. 14.
  127.  
  128.      B.        Jesus bore the curse against our labour, with the
  129.                crown of thorns upon His head.  Genesis 3:17-19.
  130.  
  131.      C.        Seed Faith releases miracles.
  132.  
  133.           a)   1 Kings 17.  The widow fed Elijah FIRST, then her
  134.                needs were met during the whole famine.
  135.  
  136.           b)   The boy gave his lunch to Jesu@ then ho was fed
  137.                with miracle bread.  John 6:9.
  138.  
  139.      D. a)     Being rich is not the answer to being poor.  Being
  140.                faithful with God's resources is! God will
  141.                increase your seed sown if you return your surplus
  142.                to the work of God. 2 Cor. 9:8 - "abound unto
  143.                every good work".
  144.  
  145.           b)   The rich fool - covetousness is keeping God's flow
  146.                for yourself.  Luke 12:21.
  147.  
  148.      E.        Accept prosperity as your Heritage.  An attitude
  149.                of unbelief or a concept of poverty will cut off
  150.                God's supply.
  151.  
  152.      F.        Express gratitude for past provision.  Deut.
  153.                28:47-48, Phil. 4:19.
  154.  
  155.      G.        Live in God's supply and not your own resources.
  156.                luke 6:38, shall "men" give unto you.
  157.  
  158.      G.   a) The secret is not to consider our resources, but our
  159.           Source.  Rom. 14:14-20.
  160.  
  161.           b)   Expect God to meet needs out of:
  162.  
  163.      i)        Better management of your resources
  164.  
  165.      ii)       increase from known sources
  166.  
  167.      iii)      From unexpected sources - ie money from the fish's
  168.                mouth
  169.  
  170.      iv)       Perfect timing of circumstances
  171.  
  172.      H.   Be diligent in labour.  "If any will not work, neither
  173.           shall he eat" 2 Thess. 3:10.
  174. 5. THE POWER OF GIVING   SEED FAITH
  175.      (Recommended reading "The Miracle of Seed Faith" by Oral
  176.      Roberts.)
  177.      A.   2 Corinthians chapter nine is all about finance and
  178.           God's blessing.  There are three levels of God's
  179.           provision available to us if we will act in faith and
  180.           give liberally and cheerfully.  Note v 6-7.
  181.           a)        BREAD FOR YOUR FOOD.  This is the basic
  182.                     covenant level of Matthew 6:33.  It requires
  183.                     no expressed faith on our part.  It is
  184.                     subsistence level and is that applied to
  185.                     those on the receiving end of the covenant
  186.                     only.
  187.  
  188.           b)        MULTIPLY YOUR SEED SOWN.
  189.  
  190.           i)        This is the plan of God for us.  When we
  191.                     plant our seed, it will produce a harvest
  192.                     relative to the size of our planting.
  193.  
  194.           ii)       God's provision is "according to His riches"
  195.                     - not out of them.  Phil. 4:19.
  196.  
  197.           iii)      It is based on multiplication not addition. 
  198.                     God can only multiply what we've sown.  It we
  199.                     fail to plant our seed, there will be no
  200.                     harvest.
  201.  
  202.           c)        INCREASE THE FRUITS OF YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS,
  203.  
  204.           i)        This is the result of giving to God in faith. 
  205.                     Not only is there a return for our personal
  206.                     needs, but also a spiritual breakthrough.
  207.  
  208.           ii)       Two of the prime results of giving freely to
  209.                     God are:
  210.                    a softened heart toward God
  211.                an increased vision of His purposes
  212.      iii)      Giving breaks the bondage of materialism and
  213.                delivers us from covetousness which God abhors
  214.                (Ps. 10:3), and the "love of money which is the
  215.                root of all evil" (1 Tim. 6:10).
  216.      B. a)     Seed-time and Harvest are irrevocable principles
  217.                with God as long as the earth stands.  Gen. 8:22. 
  218.                This is further emphasised by Paul Galatians 6:7.
  219.      b)   Jesus spoke often of faith as a "mustard seed".  A seed
  220.           must be planted.  If we are believing for financial
  221.           release, then we need to plant finance.  Notice how
  222.           Jesus tied receiving to giving--Luke 6:38.
  223.  
  224.      c)   A rejected opportunity to give is a lost opportunity to
  225.           receive.
  226.  
  227.      d)   God planted His Seed-Faith when He "gave" His Son. 
  228.           John 3:16.  As a result He has reaped a harvest of sons
  229.           - the blood-washed multitude.  Rev. 7:9.
  230.  6. AVOIDING PROBLEMS
  231.  
  232. A.   Some ministers have sought to raise funds by promising "blessing" to
  233.      people if they will give a certain amount to their ministries.  This is
  234.      a nefarious practice.
  235.  
  236. B.   The tithe and offering belongs to the local Church.  Giving to various
  237.      ministries must only be over and above our first responsibilities.
  238.  
  239. C.   Learn whatsoever state you are in therewith to be content - Phil.
  240.      4:11-12.
  241.  
  242. D.   Seed-sowing requires time for a harvest- Galatians 6:9 - Never Give UP!!
  243.  
  244. E.   Seek first the Kingdom of God - Matt. 6:33.
  245.  
  246. F.   Realise that God (and not a technique) is your Source.
  247.  
  248. G.   Don't eat your seed.  Stewardship of God's resources is the key to
  249.      continued prosperity.

  251. 7.   PRINCIPLES OF CHURCH PROSPERITY
  252.  
  253. A.   The Church that is mean will always be lean.  A Church can only give to
  254.      the poor, to missions and its ministry.  God will tie a Church's income
  255.      and budget to its treatment of the servants of God in its midst.
  256.  
  257.      In Israel a workforce of 603,550 supported 22,000 Levites, ie they had
  258.      access to almost 3 times the national average wage.  Each Levite was
  259.      supported by 28 Israelites.  Numbers 1:47, 3:43.

  261.      B.   The Church must operate in faith.  Its budget must never be out of
  262.      its resources only, but out of its believing God for increase.

  264. 8.   THE TRANSFER OF WEALTH
  265.  
  266.      Israel coming out of Egypt is a type of the End-time Church preparing to
  267.      leave the world and having the resources of the world transfered to it
  268.      for the purposes of World Evangelism.

  270.      Ex. 12:33-36.  Note Ps. 105:37; Is. 60:5, 11; Job 27:16-17; Prov. 28:8;
  271.      Ecc. 2:26.
